Fanatec Up Their Game With Clubsport DD & DD+ Wheel Bases

Fanatec Up Their Game With Clubsport DD & DD+ Wheel Bases

Fanatec have released two new wheel bases, the 12Nm ClubSport DD and the 15Nm ClubSport DD+, the new bases bridge the gap between the entry level CSL and GT DD Pro  and the DD1 and DD2.

While the entry-level CSL and GT DD Pro bases offer 5Nm of torque (or 8Nm with the boost kits). Their bigger brothers the ClubSport DD and DD+ offer 12Nm and 15Nm respectively. These releases are somewhat overdue from Fanatec, as rivals have  been releasing bases at around the 10-12Nm peak torque for some time now, 10-12Nm seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of people.

Of course if you are in the market for a wheel base it isn't all about peak torque, to get the full immersive experience, the quality and detail of the force feedback is much more important is it not? Before we look at why the ClubSport DD and DD+ are a leap forward for Fanatec lets summarise their revised wheel base lineup:

CSL DD:  5Nm (8Nm With Boost Pack) -  Compatible with PC, Xbox One® and Xbox Series X|S (*Steering Wheel Must Be XBOX Licensed For XBOX Compatibility)

GT DD Pro:  5Nm (8Nm With Boost Pack) - Compatible with PC, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.

ClubSport DD:  12Nm - Compatible with PC, Xbox One® and Xbox Series X|S (*Steering Wheel Must Be XBOX Licensed For XBOX Compatibility)

ClubSport DD+:  15Nm - Compatible with PC, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.

DD1:  20Nm - Compatible with PC, Xbox One® and Xbox Series X|S (*Steering Wheel Must Be XBOX Licensed For XBOX Compatibility)
DD2:  25NmCompatible with PC, Xbox One® and Xbox Series X|S (*Steering Wheel Must Be XBOX Licensed For XBOX Compatibility)

The good news is the ClubSport DD and DD+ do offer improved refinement over all of Fanatec's bases IMO. They are also equipped with new haptic technology Fanatec have named FullForce... TrueForce was already taken!!

FullForce in theory should be able to add an extra layer of granular detail to the force feedback, as it's relatively new technology no games support it yet, It would be a fair bet to say iRacing will probably be the first to integrate it in some capacity. Once game developers get to grips with FullForce we'll begin to see just how rewarding it is.

The big takeaway for me is these two wheel bases plug a massive gap in the Fanatec line up and are sure to be popular, hitting the swet spot for a lot of people.

To summarise, if you are a PC user you'll probably be more than happy with 12Nm of torque that ClubSport DD provides, unless you are built like the proverbial brick outhouse, strong as an ox and eat three Weetabix in the morning of course!!
